Can You Play Valorant on Mac?

Valorant has no native Mac version. Compatible Intel Macs may run it through Windows in Boot Camp, but Apple silicon Macs have no supported method.

Cover art of Valorant

Valorant does not have a native macOS client. A compatible Intel-based Mac may run the Windows edition after installing Windows through Apple's Boot Camp Assistant. Apple silicon Macs, including M-series models, have no supported route because Boot Camp is unavailable and Riot does not support ARM processors, virtual machines or cloud gaming for Valorant.

That makes the answer dependent on the Mac's processor:

- Intel Mac: Potentially playable through a native Windows Boot Camp installation. - Apple silicon Mac: Not playable through a supported local method. - macOS itself: Not supported.

Riot’s current requirements list only 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, explicitly state that ARM processors are unsupported, and say Valorant does not support cloud gaming or virtual machines.

Why Valorant does not run natively on macOS

Valorant depends on Riot Vanguard, the game’s anti-cheat system. Vanguard is designed around a supported Windows environment and loads security components deeply into that operating system.

The practical issue is not simply whether a Mac’s graphics processor is fast enough. Riot would need to provide and support a macOS game client and a compatible anti-cheat implementation. Riot has not provided one.

Tools that translate ordinary Windows applications cannot solve that problem. CrossOver, Wine and Whisky may run some Windows games on macOS, but they do not create the supported Windows platform Vanguard expects.

How to identify your Mac’s processor

  1. Open the Apple menu.
  2. Select About This Mac.
  3. Look for Chip or Processor.

If the window names an Apple M-series chip, the Mac uses Apple silicon and cannot use Boot Camp. If it names an Intel processor, compare the exact model with Apple’s Boot Camp compatibility list. Apple supports Boot Camp installation of Windows 10 on selected Intel Macs introduced between 2012 and 2020.

Can an Intel Mac run Valorant?

A compatible Intel Mac can install Windows 10 through Boot Camp Assistant. Unlike a virtual machine, Boot Camp starts Windows directly on the Mac’s hardware. Apple supplies Windows support software for components such as graphics, audio, networking, keyboard and trackpad.

Valorant may then run if the machine meets Riot’s requirements. Riot currently lists:

  • A 64-bit edition of Windows 10 build 19041 or newer, or Windows 11
  • A processor with SSE 4.2 or AVX support
  • An Intel Core i3-540 or AMD Athlon 200GE at the minimum tier
  • Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon R5 220 graphics at the minimum tier
  • 4 GB RAM
  • DirectX 11 support
  • At least 1 GB VRAM when using dedicated graphics

Riot lists stronger hardware for 60 FPS and 144 FPS targets. Meeting the minimum tier means the game is eligible to run, not that every Intel Mac will provide a consistently competitive experience.

Important Windows 10 limitation

Apple’s official Boot Camp instructions support Windows 10 on compatible Intel Macs. Microsoft’s standard Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025, although separate extended-security arrangements may exist. This creates an important 2026 trade-off: the Apple-supported Boot Camp path uses an operating system that no longer receives ordinary consumer security support.

Riot still lists Windows 10 build 19041 or newer as a supported Valorant operating system. However, game compatibility and operating-system security support are separate questions.

Windows 11 normally requires TPM 2.0 and UEFI Secure Boot for Valorant. Riot confirms both requirements for Windows 11. Many Intel Macs do not satisfy Windows 11’s supported security requirements through Apple’s standard Boot Camp configuration, so an unofficial Windows 11 installation is not a reliable recommendation for Valorant.

How to install Valorant on a compatible Intel Mac

1. Back up the Mac

Back up important files before repartitioning the startup disk. Boot Camp modifies the disk layout, and an interruption or incorrect partition choice can cause data loss.

2. Check Boot Camp compatibility

Compare the exact Mac model with Apple’s supported Intel list. Apple identifies compatible MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac, iMac Pro and Mac Pro generations. Apple silicon models are excluded.

3. Prepare Windows and storage

Apple requires a full 64-bit Windows 10 installation image for a first installation. Its official minimum is 64 GB of free startup-disk space, while at least 128 GB provides a better experience for Windows updates and applications. Some models require a 16 GB or larger USB drive.

Leave enough capacity for Windows, Apple drivers, Valorant, Vanguard, temporary download files and future patches. The Windows partition cannot be resized through the normal Boot Camp workflow after creation.

4. Run Boot Camp Assistant

Open Applications > Utilities > Boot Camp Assistant and follow the on-screen instructions. Select the Windows ISO and allocate the partition.

On Macs with Apple’s T2 Security Chip, Apple tells users to restore the default Full Security setting before installing Windows.

5. Complete Windows installation

Select the BOOTCAMP partition when prompted. After Windows starts, install Apple’s Boot Camp support software. If drivers do not install automatically, Apple provides a process for downloading the support package through Boot Camp Assistant.

6. Install driver and Windows updates

Install available Apple support software, Windows updates and graphics drivers appropriate for the Mac. Confirm that audio, Wi-Fi, keyboard, trackpad and graphics acceleration work before installing the game.

7. Install Valorant from Riot

Download the Windows installer from Riot’s official Valorant site. Install the Riot Client, Valorant and Vanguard, then restart Windows when requested.

Do not download modified clients or attempt to disable Vanguard. Circumventing anti-cheat checks can compromise the system and place the Riot account at risk.

Can Apple silicon Macs run Valorant?

No supported method exists for Macs with Apple silicon. This includes Mac models using M1, M2, M3, M4 and later Apple-designed processors.

Apple’s Boot Camp workflow is limited to Intel Macs, while Riot explicitly states that ARM processors are unsupported.

Parallels and VMware Fusion

These applications can run Windows 11 for ARM on Apple silicon, but Riot does not support ARM processors or virtual machines. As a result, installing Windows inside Parallels or VMware does not create a supported Valorant environment.

CrossOver, Wine and Whisky

These are compatibility layers rather than native Windows installations. They cannot supply the complete supported Windows and Vanguard environment required by Valorant.

Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit

Apple’s porting tools can help developers evaluate and adapt DirectX games for macOS. They do not turn an unsupported anti-cheat game into a user-installable Mac application. Riot would still need to ship and support a native client and anti-cheat solution.

Cloud gaming

Riot’s current requirements page explicitly says Valorant does not support cloud gaming. A provider offering other Riot or Windows games should not be assumed to offer Valorant.

Can you remotely access a physical Windows PC?

A Mac can technically receive a remote video stream from another physical computer, but Valorant’s anti-cheat, input requirements and competitive integrity rules make remote-control arrangements unsuitable as a general recommendation.

Riot officially excludes cloud gaming, and remote play can add latency that is especially noticeable in a tactical shooter. Use a supported Windows PC or the console edition instead of relying on an unverified remote workflow.

Performance considerations on Intel Macs

Intel Mac hardware varies substantially. An older MacBook Air with integrated graphics is not equivalent to an iMac or MacBook Pro with dedicated graphics.

To improve stability:

  • Install the latest Apple-provided Windows drivers.
  • Use a moderate output resolution rather than the display’s highest scaled resolution.
  • Start with lower material, texture, detail and interface-quality settings.
  • Disable unnecessary background applications.
  • Cap the frame rate to a level the hardware can sustain consistently.
  • Keep air vents unobstructed.
  • Use the power adapter during extended play.

Avoid undervolting, firmware modification or undocumented thermal tools solely to run the game. Those changes can create stability and support problems.

Are Counter-Strike 2 and other suggested alternatives native to Mac?

Several older recommendation lists are now inaccurate:

  • Counter-Strike 2 does not provide current macOS support.
  • Team Fortress 2 has legacy Mac history, but modern 64-bit macOS compatibility and current client availability should not be assumed.
  • Paladins ended Mac support years ago and should not be presented as a current native alternative.
  • Ready or Not is designed for Windows and modern consoles, not native macOS.

Mac users seeking a supported competitive shooter should check the current platform labels in the relevant store rather than relying on historic Mac listings. Browser, streaming and console alternatives are separate from native macOS support.

Better supported ways to play Valorant

If the Mac uses Apple silicon, the reliable options are:

  1. Use a Windows PC that meets Riot’s requirements.
  2. Play the supported console edition on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
  3. Wait for an official Riot announcement regarding additional platforms.

The console edition uses its own matchmaking rules and controls. It should not be treated as the same input environment as the Windows PC client.

Common problems on an Intel Mac

Vanguard reports a Windows security error

Confirm which Windows build is installed. Riot requires TPM 2.0 and UEFI Secure Boot on Windows 11. Because Apple’s supported Boot Camp workflow is for Windows 10, an unofficial Windows 11 installation may fail Riot’s security checks.

Valorant installs but performs poorly

Compare the CPU and graphics hardware with Riot’s official 30, 60 and 144 FPS tiers. Lower the resolution and graphics settings, close background software and install the correct Boot Camp drivers.

Wi-Fi, audio or keyboard does not work in Windows

Reinstall Apple’s Windows support software. Apple identifies missing audio, camera, display, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality as reasons to reinstall Boot Camp drivers.

Boot Camp is missing

Confirm that the Mac has an Intel processor and appears in Apple’s supported list. Apple silicon Macs do not support the Boot Camp Windows installation process.
